The magic flute
I recently discovered that several of my friends do not know who Zamfir is and have never, ever heard of him. I know! I classify Zamfir's existence under the "common knowledge" category, i.e. EVERYONE should know who he is and if they don't, why not? You only had to turn the TV on just once during the 80s to see one of his famous infomercials and to hear the hauntingly beautiful sound of his pan flute playing Chariots of Fire.

Totally! I think the fact that you met someone who doesn't know Zamfir is just an example of how old we are getting. The other day I met someone who didn't know who Raffi was, and I had a similar reaction. But there are people in my Mommy And Baby group who weren't even born in 1980, so I guess that's some kind of excuse. Soon we'll find that the kids these days don't even know who the hell The Cure are, or what a John Hughes movie is, or even to snicker when they hear, "Where's the Beef?" Sigh.

I'd like to pipe in on this one ... (ha ha ha)

I remember those commercials, and I always thought he was so cheesy. Then I bought the Kill Bill Vol. 1 soundtrack and found that he has one of the prettiest songs on it. Rock on, Zamfir!
