Maddy, it's bad!
I saw Madonna's new video for "Hung Up" this morning. The first thing you see is Maddy taking off her track suit to reveal an 80s-esk hot pink leotard and the first thing I wanted her to do was to put her track suit back on. Ugh, Madonna, you're too old to be showing off so much skin in your video. She still has an amazing body, yes, but there was something icky about this video (yes, even more so than any others). And the ick-factor when way up near the end of the video where she appears to be humping a stereo or speaker (I'm not sure which, I was too afraid to go in for a closer look).

Also I found the entire thing to be unoriginal. For one, the song samples ABBA. And the video looks suspiciously like a scene from Flashdance (JLo tried this in a video and it didn't work for her either). And the "disco" line dancing - she'd already done it with "Vogue".

Anyone else seen it and had the same or other thoughts?

Haven't seen the video yet, but I agree that the song is 100% unoriginal. Disappointing, considering it's coming from someone who was always known for being cutting edge and original in the realm of pop music.

I'll check out her site and see if any of the other songs from the album are any good. Found any you like better than "Hung up"?

The only new song her site cycles through is "Hung Up", so I haven't heard any others.

I hope there are at least two decent songs on the new album. That's how I found the American Life album to be.

It's been ages since I saw a music video. Where do people even watch these things these days? Every time I tune in to MuchMusic (granted, not that often) they aren't actually showing a video. I recently read a lot about Green Day's video for Wake Me When September Ends, so eventually I just went online and watched it at their website. If Madonna posts the video on her site, I'll definitely check it out -- I love her videos. The one for Music kicks ass.

As for the new CD...I don't own all her stuff but if it's nice and dancy I think I'll ask for it for Christmas. In honour of your post I've been listening to "Music" all morning and I'd forgotten how groovy it is. She does rock :).

Um...the above comment was posted by me, not by sirmonkeypants. I'd fix it but it's too much of a bother and plus, I think it's kind of funny to think of sirmonkeypants listening to Madonna all morning!

I also almost never watch videos. I just happened to be flipping channels while I was eating breakfast that morning and they had a countdown to Madonna's video in the corner and it was only 2 minutes away, so I waited for it.

The new album is supposed to be all disco-y, so it should be a good one for easy listening. I usually don't like the more experimental songs she tries. Based on Hung Up, I don't think she's doing anything out of the ordinary. I guess that's a good thing in a way.

I've not seen the Green Day video you speak of, either.

I actually did see this. I never watch videos but I turned on the TV the other day as I was cleaning up the frat house. [info]turtle_head was out somewhere. And whatever channel it was on was doing a countdown. They went on and on about the epic video ".. more like a movie than a video .. " Blah blah blah. Obviously I thought it was overrated.
