I'll start with you
We're going to get a real Christmas tree this year. Since we've never had more than a 1-foot high fake tree in our apartment, we realized that we would have to get a tree stand to go with the tree. And this weekend we bought THE ULTIMATE TREE STAND! It's the one that's advertised in the Canadian Tire commercials; the one with the removable water reservior. It's actual name is the Swivel Straight (I prefer to call it THE ULTIMATE TREE STAND, all caps). It claims that one person can put up a tree in one minute without hassle.

We'll see if the stand lives up to it's promise, we're planning to purchase one of the $15 trees at IKEA next weeekend.

Man, how sad is it that as soon as I read, "I'll start with you," the tune to the Canadian Tire theme song popped into my head? It's a nothing phrase but now completely associated with the store in my mind.

Lately I've read more than one article slamming the Canadian Tire Guy (who, apparently, works in a camera store in Toronto -- [info]sinnick met him a couple of weeks ago and blogged about it). But I like those commercials. They make life seem so hopeful and easy. Apparently, though, the store has just hired a new advertising firm so the Canadian Tire Couple is a thing of the past. Sniff.

We have also never had a real tree. I always imagined they were too much work. I'll be interested to hear how easy you think it is now that you have THE ULTIMATE TREE STAND. And also, I expect a post detailing how, exactly, you got it out of your apartment for disposal!

This year we bought a new 7 1/2 foot fake tree and I must say, it is very very fake. And because it is new, it is shedding needles just like a real tree (hopefully a first-year-only phenomenon!). I feel like we may as well have gotten a real tree!

I figured someone would know the song...

Our condo building has a few days in the new year when they will dispose of all the trees, so it's much easier to have a real one since we don't have to store a fake one in our storage closet (since we have no room in there anyway).

As far as the Cdn Tire guy goes, I think people love to hate him. It's a Canadian thing, I guess. I wonder if they'll try to market to yonger couples with the new firm?
